The Water Forum SA Episode 52 with Dr Anthony Turton and Bridgetti Lim Banda

The Water Forum SA Episode 52 with Dr Anthony Turton and Bridgetti Lim BandaWe currently discharge over 5 billion liters of sewage into our rivers daily, 4.2 billion liters of which are untreated or at best partially treated. About 60% of our municipalities are financially distressed and about one quarter absolutely dysfunctional. This is usually associated with the failure of sewage works such as Sebokeng that discharges 120 million liters of untreated sewage into the Vaal River every day. Rand Water supplies drinking water to 45% of the population and sustains about 65% of the economy yet it's treatment plant was never designed to convert sewage contaminated water into drinking water. Call to Action to declare the VAAL River system a Provincial Crisis: https://secure.avaaz.org/en/community_petitions/Mr_President_Save_the_People_of_Emfuleni_from_a_Humanitarian_and_Ecological_Crisis_Mr_Ramaphosa_Declare_the_Vaal_River_System_in_Gauteng_a_Provincial_Disaster_NOW/?zWazplb&fbclid=IwAR0HmwKdYhCyB1MR3QpuPxuRTQF0ZSGkJGhFZZn1MA7OS2WpMoyvZqFMiCg
