The Building Blocks

This page lists the technology building blocks used in the creation of this website, and all the functions and tools it provides. These building blocks are commonly referred to in WordPress babble as Themes, Plugins, Add-ons and Add-ins, of which there exist over 50,000 (and growing fast) globally.

WordPress is the undisputed global Market Leader in Content Management Systems, with a vast amount of willing and able support people everywhere. We can therefore guarantee that we will always be able to maintain and grow the functionality of this web point-of-presence, leveraging Rapid Application Build (RAB) through ready-made building blocs, without having to reinvent the wheel with any custom development. We believe in keeping risk to zero while massively maximizing functional benefit, which kinda flies in the face of the old adage: “The Higher the Risk, the Higher the Reward”. No! We turn that around by saying:

“The Lower the Risk, the Higher the Benefit” – The new paradigm in the new digital economy…

However, with so many building blocks to choose from, where do you start to find what is right for you? Very good question, which is why we decided to publish this page, as we have already gone through the wash over the past 10 years, having filtered out the good from the bad. So, why not share this knowledge with our esteemed members, as a token of goodwill and giveback, under the auspices of our social responsibility.

Alas, herewith some stuff our legal-minded brethren advised us to tell you, so, here goes: Most of these products have referral or affiliate links associated with them, and if you choose to use them yourself, a small token of appreciation will befall the poor sod who went through all the trouble to bring this website for free and gratis… So, Thank You, in advance for providing your support in this regard, it is greatly appreciated. Refer to the section In Building this Website on the Home page.

The Web Hosting Service

So, before you can do squat, you need to be able to host your website somewhere, yes? Right, so this is where you will need a Web Hosting Service provider – You could host it yourself or you could circumvent the plethora of costs and headache to build and maintain your own hosting infrastructure, or you could outsource it to specialists in their fields.

Now, without going into too much techno babble here, let me just say that I have been from pillar to post, from the most expensive to the least expensive, and I can sat this, with total confidence:

Do not go from pillar to post, or from the most expensive to the least expensive; just go with what loads of money, tears and sweat-equity brought you…

All I can say is: SPEED, SECURITY and SUPPORT. These are the ultimate key differentiators to separates the wheat from the chaff, and only then do you consider cost… If your pages don’t load in less than 3 seconds, no-one will view your site, if your site is hacked from the back-end, you don’t have a site, and if your site is down with slow or arduous support, then you don’t have a site. Full stop!

And when it comes to price, not only will this bunch below give you the best bang for your buck, but you get up to 60% off your first years subscription simply by clicking the link below (and only if you decide to go with this suggestion, of course…).

Web Infrastructure

Core Components

These products are an absolute MUST in every website, as they are responsible for business continuity, disaster recovery and security, the most fundamental foundation elements without which you will find yourself in deep trouble in no time flat. Hard lessons learnt resulted in these technologies over many years, and I can personally vouch for them, as I use them by default on all the websites I build.

Security

Protecting your valuable online asset from the multitudes of unethical and unscrupulous operators is the very first order of business that you should attend to, even before you create the very first page. In fact, this should be the first thing to do after you have installed the WordPress core – Nothing else matters if you cannot protect your site.

There are hundreds of security Plugins out there, all claiming to be the bees knees of website security, and many of them can very well attest to their claims, however, I have found, through many trials and error, that one stands out above the others, and you are welcome to check them out here:

Shield Security

BCP & DRP

The following plugin goes way beyond simple backing up and restoring your website; it also include highly sophisticated technologies that will enable you to migrate your total website to another Web Hosting

A Theme

As a Painter needs a Canvas, so does the Webmaster need a Theme. The Theme is the Canvas that will give shape, form and beauty to your creation, and with the right Theme, you can literally create a million website and not one will look the same, but all of them will be beautiful, sleek and fast, very fast (if your pages don’t load in less the 3 seconds, you have lost your prospect…).
